Planned work, booked ahead
Lock change Pilar de la Horadada, for homes already lived in
A cylinder that grinds, keys that went with a tenant or a cleaner, a mortice lock that has had its day, a house that has just changed hands. Booked for a time that suits you, with the options and the price on the table before anything is fitted.

When
Signs a lock is due for changing
- The key needs jiggling, or only turns if you pull the door towards you.
- Somebody who no longer should has a key: a former tenant, a builder, a cleaner, an ex.
- The house has just been bought, and nobody knows how many keys went round before.
- The cylinder sticks out beyond the handle plate, where it can be gripped and snapped.
- A key broke in the lock, and the cylinder was only cleared, not replaced.
If the door was forced, or you want something stronger than a like-for-like change, that is the break-in and high-security page.
Options
What can go into your door
A new euro cylinder
Most front doors here take a euro-profile cylinder. Swapping it is quick, and every key that opened the old one stops working at once. Anti-snap and anti-bump models are offered alongside ordinary ones, with the difference explained.
A mortice lock serviced or renewed
Older timber doors often have a lock set into the edge of the door. A worn one can be serviced, or replaced with a lock that fits the same pocket, so the door does not need cutting again.
The gate, the side door, the garage
A change is only as good as the weakest door into the house. While the van is there, the other outside locks can be done in the same visit.
A repair instead
Sometimes the lock is fine and the door has dropped: the latch no longer meets the keep. That is an adjustment, not a new lock, and it costs less.

Why lock changes come up so often in Pilar de la Horadada
Homes change hands. The municipality grew from 6,509 residents in 1986 to 24,316 at the start of 2025. When a resale house or bungalow is handed over, nobody can say how many keys went round before, so the cylinders are the first thing worth changing.
Some locks are original. Pinar de Campoverde has been built since the mid-1980s, and some front doors there still have the lock they were hung with. How to tell if yours is worn out.
Sea air works on metal. A cylinder on a front door a short walk from the beach at La Torre, Mil Palmeras or El Mojón takes more salt than one inland, and tends to stiffen sooner. Terrace sliders suffer the same way; those are on the sliding door page.
A home handed over by the builder in the last months is a different job, with a page of its own.
Booking
Booking it, from a photo to a fitted cylinder
-
Send a photo, or describe the door
The lock from the outside and from the edge of the door is enough for a first idea.
-
Pick a day
Planned work is booked in normal hours, at a time you choose.
-
Measure and choose
The cylinder is measured on the door, the options are shown, and the price is agreed before anything is fitted.
-
Fitted and tested
Every key is tried in the new cylinder with the door open and shut, and the old one is yours to keep or bin.
Shut out right now with a lock that has finally given up? That is an emergency call-out, and the change can follow. Opening it gently first: how doors are opened. To book, use whichever channel suits.
Questions
Before booking a lock change
Do I need to know the size of my cylinder before ringing?
You do not need to. The cylinder is measured on the door, both sides of the cam, before a replacement is chosen. If you want a rough idea first, send a photo of the lock from the edge of the door.
Is it worth paying more for an anti-snap cylinder?
On a door where the cylinder sticks out of the handle plate, usually yes: it is the part a burglar would try to break. On a well-fitted cylinder behind a guard, an ordinary good-quality one can be enough. You are shown both and choose.
We have bought a resale house and the previous owners had keys for years. Change everything?
Change the cylinders on every door that leads in from outside: front door, side or garage door, and the gate if it has a lock. Inside doors can wait.
Can the old lock be repaired rather than replaced?
Often. A stiff cylinder can sometimes be cleaned and lubricated, and a mortice lock with a tired spring can be serviced. If the repair would cost close to a new part, you are told so.
